I only do necessary procedures. (Watching and
waiting + expert monitoring are often the best choice.) |
I treat the whole patient — his symptoms and lifestyle, not
just lab reports and images. (A very old-fashioned idea!) |
I only recommend the safest, most cost-effective, and
longest-lasting procedures. |
I do not experiment with trendy devices in order to
impress
colleagues and patients or to charge more. |
I do not do procedures that remain controversial in the
West
(e.g. carotid stenting; lasers for varicose veins). |
I offer patients options from the most conservative to the
most
cutting-edge. (Often “less is more.”) |
When I cannot help a patient, I refer him to someone who
can help. (I don’t pretend to be an expert in everything.) |
I do not re-use disposables or otherwise cut corners. |
Every year, I attend workshops worldwide so I can give
my patients the best. (I do not rely on local hearsay.) |
